Acceptable Use Policy

1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of the Moondoggle desktop application and cloud services, including the AI Assistant. We built Moondoggle for novelists and creative writers and this policy exists to protect that community, not to police your imagination.

2. Permitted Uses

You are expressly permitted to:

  • Write any genre of fiction including dark themes, violence, horror, romance, erotica, and mature content. Moondoggle is a creative writing tool, not a content moderation platform. We trust our users to be creative adults.
  • Use the AI Assistant for brainstorming, research, structural feedback, character development, worldbuilding, plot analysis, and any other legitimate creative thinking.
  • Incorporate AI suggestions into your work.
  • Install on multiple personal devices since your license covers your household.
  • Use your own API keys (BYOK) with any supported AI provider — the only way to access AI during open beta, and available as an Advanced setting on the Solo or Power Plan afterward.

A note on AI provider policies: Moondoggle does not restrict what you write in your manuscripts. However, the AI Assistant routes queries to third-party AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek, or AWS Bedrock), and these providers maintain their own acceptable use policies. Most providers restrict their models from generating sexually explicit material, depictions of real-world violence, hate speech, and deceptive political content, even within a creative writing context. If a provider declines a request based on its own policies, that is the provider's decision, not Moondoggle's. You remain free to write anything in your manuscripts, and the provider policies apply only to what the AI Assistant will engage with.

3. Prohibited Uses

You may not use Moondoggle or its services to:

  1. Mass-generate content for spam, SEO manipulation, content farms, or any automated publishing scheme.
  2. Generate illegal, threatening, harassing, or defamatory content, or content that violates others' intellectual property rights.
  3. Share, sell, or distribute your license key or cloud account credentials.
  4. Access the service via bots or automation, or abuse any API or integration beyond normal personal use.
  5. Circumvent usage limits or rate limiting through any technical means.
  6. Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software, except as permitted by applicable law.
  7. Extract or reverse-engineer AI model weights or training data through the service.
  8. Use the service to develop a competing product or systematically replicate Moondoggle's functionality.
  9. Upload malicious files or attempt to compromise the service's infrastructure or other users' data.

4. AI-Specific Guidelines

Moondoggle's AI Assistant is a thinking partner. It provides feedback, scaffolding, and research assistance, but it does not generate prose on your behalf. When using the AI features:

  • Use them for their intended purpose, which is helping you think about and develop your own unique creative work.
  • Do not attempt to manipulate the AI into producing content that violates this AUP.
  • Respect the usage limits associated with your plan (Power Plan or Booster Pack).
  • Comply with the terms of service of the underlying AI provider. When using BYOK, you are subject to your provider's terms. When using managed AI (Power Plan), requests are processed through AWS Bedrock, which maintains its own usage policies.

5. Creative Provenance Integrity

Creative Provenance provides cryptographic proof of human authorship. This system depends on trust:

  • Do not misrepresent AI-generated content as human-authored in contexts where a Creative Provenance attestation has been issued.
  • Do not tamper with, forge, or manipulate provenance records.

Fraud on the provenance system undermines every author in the Moondoggle community and will be treated as a serious violation.

6. Enforcement

Violations of this AUP may result in:

  1. A written warning
  2. Temporary suspension of cloud services
  3. Permanent termination of your account and license

We apply enforcement proportionally and in good faith. You may appeal any enforcement decision by emailing support@moondoggle.app within 30 days.

7. Reporting Violations

If you believe another user is violating this AUP, please contact us at support@moondoggle.app. We review all reports and will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
